About Anglish
Anglish is a linguistic thought experiment: English written only with words of Germanic origin, as if the Norman Conquest of 1066 had never flooded the language with French and Latin borrowings. Instead of "vocabulary" one says wordstock; a "dictionary" is a wordbook; to "translate" is to overset.
The idea has drawn writers from William Barnes in the 19th century to Poul Anderson, whose essay "Uncleftish Beholding" famously explains atomic theory in pure Germanic English.
