Telugu Document Translator — English ↔ Telugu
Upload a PDF, Word document, spreadsheet, or a photo of a paper document and get a clean translation between English and Telugu in minutes. Telugu has around 93 million speakers and is the official language of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, so the documents that cross this pair are real paperwork: birth certificates, land records, school memos, HR policies, court notices. The tool reads Telugu script directly — including scanned and photographed pages.
How Telugu documents come out
Telugu is written left to right in its own Brahmic script, whose distinctively rounded letterforms go back to writing on palm leaves, where straight strokes would split the leaf. There is no right-to-left mirroring to deal with (unlike Arabic or Hebrew), but the script is typographically demanding in other ways: consonant clusters are written as subscript conjuncts hanging below the base letter, and vowel signs attach above, below, or beside it, so Telugu text needs generous line spacing — PDFs set with tight leading routinely clip the marks. Telugu has its own digits (౧, ౨, ౩), though modern documents almost always use Western digits, and official figures are counted in lakhs and crores rather than millions. Because Telugu is agglutinative, a single word often carries what English says in three or four, so translated lines never match the original line for line. That is why we deliberately output clean, properly shaped Unicode Telugu (or English) as readable text and HTML with a PDF download, rather than forcing the translation back into the source layout pixel by pixel — every conjunct and vowel sign rendered correctly, every line copyable.
What people translate to and from Telugu
Immigration and visa paperwork
Telugu is one of the fastest-growing languages in the United States, and most of that paperwork flows one way: birth certificates, marriage certificates, SSC and Intermediate marks memos, and police clearance documents issued in Telugu that need to be read in English for USCIS filings, university admissions, or employer verification. Upload the certificate — even a straight-on phone photo of it — and get a complete English rendering you can read, check against the original, and hand to a certified translator to attest.
Land records and family property
Sale deeds, pattadar passbooks, encumbrance certificates, and revenue-office notices in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are issued in Telugu, in a dense legal register full of survey numbers, boundary descriptions, and stamp-office formulas. Families abroad managing inherited property — or buyers doing due diligence — upload these to get an English version they can actually read before signing anything or briefing a lawyer.
Business and HR in the two Telugu states
Companies operating around Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, and Vijayawada translate the other direction: employee handbooks, factory-floor safety notices, pharma and manufacturing SOPs, customer communications, and tender documents from English into Telugu. Formal written Telugu is not just word-swapped English — it needs the honorific register (mīru, the -gāru suffix) and standard administrative vocabulary, which is exactly where a document-level translation beats pasting paragraphs into a phrase box.
Academic and literary work
Telugu was declared a classical language of India in 2008, and there is steady two-way academic traffic: researchers rendering Telugu literature, theses, and archival material into English, and Telugu-medium students translating English textbooks, papers, and study guides the other way. EPUB support means whole books can go through in one pass, and the Scholar plan's 1,000,000-character limit is sized for exactly this kind of work.
What to watch for in Telugu document translation
The recurring failure in Telugu document translation is register. Written Telugu spans a wide range — the modern standard is based on educated coastal-Andhra speech, but official and legal documents pull heavily Sanskritized vocabulary that ordinary readers find stiff, while Telangana usage carries Urdu-derived administrative terms from the Hyderabad state era. Machine output that ignores this lands either too bookish or too casual, and dropping the honorific plural (mīru instead of nuvvu, the -gāru suffix on names) makes business correspondence read as rude. Numbers are the second trap: Telugu documents count in lakhs and crores, so "45 లక్షలు" silently becoming "45 million" instead of 4.5 million is a tenfold error in a property deed. Names transliterate inconsistently in both directions — the same person can be Lakshmi or Laxmi, Srinivas or Seenivas, across their own documents. And on the technical side, a large share of older Telugu PDFs use legacy non-Unicode fonts whose extracted text is gibberish, so any pipeline that trusts embedded text instead of reading the page produces confident nonsense. Finally, everyday Telugu freely absorbs English words in Telugu script; a good translation renders them as the English originals rather than transliterating them back into invented spellings.
Telugu document translation FAQ
- Is the English to Telugu document translator free?
- Yes, with honest limits. On the free tier you can upload files up to 4MB — enough for typical certificates, memos, and multi-page PDFs. Pro raises the limit to 20MB, and Scholar handles files up to 50MB and up to 1,000,000 characters, which covers books and full archives. No watermarks on the output at any tier.
- Can it translate a scanned or photographed Telugu document?
- Yes. Upload a JPG, PNG, or HEIC photo, or a scanned PDF, and the Telugu text is read straight off the page image — conjuncts, vowel signs, and all. A flat, well-lit, straight-on capture of the full page gives the best result. Clean scans of printed certificates work well; faded carbon copies and handwritten registrar entries are harder, so double-check names and numbers in the output against the original.
- My Telugu PDF turns into garbage characters when I copy the text. Will it still work?
- Yes — upload it as it is. Many Telugu PDFs were typeset with pre-Unicode DTP fonts (Anu Script Manager, ShreeLipi and similar), so their embedded text is gibberish even though the page looks fine. Files like this are read visually, the same way scanned pages are, and the translation you get back is clean Unicode Telugu or English that pastes correctly anywhere.
- Will the translated file look exactly like my original?
- No, and that is deliberate. You get the full content of your document as clean translated text and HTML, with a PDF download — not a pixel-for-pixel copy of the original layout. Telugu and English take up very different amounts of space, and squeezing translated text back into the original boxes produces overlapping lines and clipped conjuncts. We prioritize output you can actually read, search, copy, and reuse.
- How accurate is the translation?
- There are two quality tiers. Fast is good for getting the gist of everyday documents. Advanced runs on a frontier model and is noticeably better at the things Telugu documents are hard on: the formal Sanskritized register of official paperwork, revenue and legal vocabulary in land records, honorifics, and keeping figures in lakhs and crores straight. Use Advanced for anything you will act on, and always verify proper names, dates, and amounts yourself — transliterated Telugu names have no single fixed English spelling.
- Can I use the output for USCIS or other official submissions?
- Not on its own. USCIS and most authorities require a certified translation — a signed statement from a translator attesting to accuracy — and machine output does not carry that certification. What you can do is use the translation to read and verify your documents, prepare your filing, and give a certified translator a head start, which usually makes the certification step faster and cheaper.
- What file formats can I upload?
- PDF, DOCX, PPTX, XLSX, and EPUB, plus JPG, PNG, and HEIC for photographed or scanned pages. Both directions work — English to Telugu and Telugu to English — and the same upload flow handles everything from a one-page certificate photo to a full book.
