How Urdu documents come out

Translate an Urdu PDF or scanned document into English, or an English document into Urdu. Upload your file and select the target language to get a translated file that keeps its layout. Printed Urdu, forms and mixed Urdu-English pages need careful review of recognition, names, dates and right-to-left layout.

Urdu uses a right-to-left Perso-Arabic script with letters such as ٹ, ڈ, ڑ, ں and ھ. Printed Urdu often uses Nastaliq, where letters slope and stack rather than sitting on a uniform baseline. That makes small or blurred text harder to recognize, especially when stamps or handwriting overlap the print. A translated Urdu file may use a different font from the source; preserving page structure does not guarantee the original Nastaliq style.

English to Urdu, or Urdu to English

English → Urdu

For an English letter, school notice or training document, choose Urdu as the target. Inspect joined letters, line spacing, punctuation and any English words or numbers that remain inside right-to-left lines.

Urdu → English

For an Urdu PDF, certificate or printed Nastaliq scan, choose English. Check the original alongside the translation, especially handwritten entries, Persian-style digits and personal names that can be romanized in several ways.

Translate your document and keep its structure

The translator keeps your file’s structure while translating the text in context. The downloaded format depends on the source file.

PDFs and scanned pages
The translated PDF follows the page visually, with translated pages rendered as images. Selectable PDF text and identical fonts are not guaranteed.
Word documents and PowerPoint presentations
Start with DOCX or PPTX when you have it. Native paragraphs, table text and slide text can stay editable in the corresponding file format. Translated text inside pictures remains image content; review text wrapping and font changes in your editor.
Excel workbooks and EPUB books
Use the original XLSX or unprotected EPUB for a translated workbook or ebook. Review formulas, numbers and text cells in a workbook; check chapter order, navigation and text flow in your ebook reader.

What people translate to and from Urdu

Printed Urdu pages into English

Read a newspaper page, study handout or printed letter in English. Check the order of columns and compare dense Nastaliq lines with the source wherever the scan is faint or compressed.

School and workplace notices into Urdu

Translate an English notice or training document for Urdu readers. A Word source lets you keep editing the translated wording and adjust font choice and line spacing before distribution.

Civil records and forms

Use a translation to understand the labels and entries on a nikah nama, certificate or other record. Check names and handwritten fields directly against the original and any matching records; the output is not a certified translation.

Family papers and correspondence

Upload a letter or family document as a PDF or clear photograph. Review unfamiliar handwriting and older vocabulary with a fluent reader before relying on ambiguous passages.

What to watch for in Urdu document translation

Some Urdu PDFs are exported from publishing software as images or with a text layer that does not copy in reading order. Upload the original PDF or a clear scan instead of pasting scrambled text. Printed form labels may translate more reliably than handwritten entries on the same page. Urdu and Punjabi in Shahmukhi can look similar because they share a script; select the intended output language and review the actual language of the source rather than identifying it from the script alone.

  • Inspect Nastaliq ligatures and small marks in the source at full size. A sharper scan is preferable to enlarging a blurred image.
  • Compare names, dates and Persian-style digits such as ۴, ۵ and ۶ with the original; do not silently normalize an official name to a different spelling.
  • Review right-to-left paragraph order, mixed English text and line spacing. The downloaded file may not retain the source font or its calligraphic style.

Urdu document translation FAQ

How do I translate an Urdu PDF into English?
Upload the PDF and select English as the target, then download a translated file with its layout retained. Select Urdu as the target to translate an English document in the reverse direction.
Is Urdu document translation free?
You can try it free, with no account needed, and signing in gives you a larger daily allowance. Pro and Scholar are there for longer documents and regular use.
What file will I download?
Native DOCX, PPTX, XLSX and EPUB uploads use their corresponding file formats for the translated result. PDF output follows the page layout, with translated pages rendered as images; selectable PDF text is not guaranteed. Native Office text can remain editable, while translated text inside embedded pictures remains image content. Font choice, line breaks and page count can change.
Can I translate a scanned Urdu document?
Yes. You can upload a scanned PDF or a JPG, PNG or HEIC photograph without running a separate OCR tool. Use sharp, upright pages with complete margins. Small print, faded stamps, handwriting and text hidden by marks need careful checking against the source.
Can I upload a scanned Urdu document in Nastaliq?
Yes, a scanned PDF or clear photograph can be processed without a separate OCR step. Recognition varies with the print size, ligatures and scan quality. Check the source at full size and review unclear passages; heavily stylized handwriting and text covered by stamps are less reliable.
Will the translated Urdu use the same Nastaliq font?
The source font and exact Nastaliq appearance are not guaranteed. Review Urdu line spacing, joining and legibility in the output. For publication, an editable Word source gives you more control over the final font than an image-based PDF.
Is the result a certified translation?
No. The result is an AI-generated translation without a human translator’s certification. It can help you read a document or prepare a draft. If you need to submit it officially, check the recipient’s requirements and arrange any required professional review or certification.
